Workshop for parents of disabled children

On Thursday, 9 February 2012 Contact a Family and Irwin Mitchell, solicitors, will be offering a one day workshop for families of disabled children.

Contact a Family’s Family Life project is offering a workshop exploring the issues around stress for parents of disabled children. The workshop will consider how stress impacts on the family and how we can manage stress in our daily lives. The aim of the workshop is to give parents the tools to recognise the triggers of stress and look at different ways of dealing with it.

Irwin Mitchell will be offering a workshop looking at legal issues affecting families of disabled children.

Who can attend? Any parent with a disabled child living in or close to Leeds. The sessions are free and will be held at Irwin Mitchell’s office in Leeds. The day will run between 10am and 3pm and will include lunch.

Booking is essential as places are limited. Please contact Karin Beeler on 020 7608 8726 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with any queries or to book a place.

Welcome to Calderdale Parent and Carers Council

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about the Calderdale Parent and Carers Council.

We are parents working together to create change so all our children and young people can learn, make friends and have a voice and be part of ordinary school and community life.

We support families of children and young people who have special educational or additional needs, are disabled, have emotional and behavioural difficulties or are experiencing difficulties fitting with school or community life for any reason.

We do this by holding regular family events, parent information and informal support sessions.  We also signpost parents and give practical and emotional support.

We help to give skills and tools to families, children and young people to work together with service providers to make a difference in Calderdale.

Get Involved

We always need people to volunteer, be it helping us with mailshots, telephone surveys, being on focus groups or Boards, representing parents views, helping out at events, doing the washing up! shifting furniture! or being a member of our committee.

We particularly welcome parents who have business experience at this moment in time, but a wide range of skills are needed to make us successful.

If you have been thinking about volunteering and would like any more information about how you can get involved please do contact us at the office on 01422 343090.

We look forward to working with you!
