Let’s Join In – Summer Activities 2006
This group of parents is working with Calderdale Council on a programme
of inclusive summer activities. A brochure is due to go out to all parents

Transition to Adult Life
Concerns about the transition to adult life have been raised
regularly since Calderdale Parent and Carers Council began, so it was
no surprise when members selected this as a priority issue for 2005 –
2006.
We carried out a consultation in a variety of ways to suit the needs of our membership. We held a series of informal meetings and focus groups, and distributed a questionnaire.
Our members’ views can be summarised by saying that although there may be some hiccups with the ‘transition process’, the main concerns lay with the quality and choices of services and opportunities available post 18.
We have been fortunate that Transition is also a priority issue for the local authority and because of this, Calderdale has been part of a regional research project. The results of the research in Calderdale confirm the views expressed by our members.
We are also taking part in a national pilot project for Person Centred Transition Planning, which has given us an example of good practice that can be developed locally.
